Alchemy

Alchemy is the study of the processes by which the basic elements — earth, water, fire, air, and ether — are mixed, purified, and transformed. In history, alchemy was the quest for transmuting base metals into gold...based on the idea that since all is "one", gold is therefore inherent of hidden in base metals. In metaphysics, alchemy is the art of liberating the essential from the non-essential to achieve perfection. Chinese Taoists practice this form of alchemy.
