Romi Kumu - Goddess of Willpower

ROMI KUMU
GODDESS OF WILLPOWER
(Sign of Aries)

In Brazil, there was a female Shaman, a manifestation of the Goddess of Creation, named ROMI KUMU. In a barren place where not a thing existed, she made a slab to cook on out of clay and placed it on three supports to form a Sacred Tripod. From the flat griddle top the sky was created and from the supports were formed the mountains. From her urine came the rain that made the crops grow and from her vagina issued forth the creative force of Fire and Energy. Many tribes believed that the world began in a flood or fire but from ROMI KUMU came both. Tribal stories are also told of the days when women ruled the Earth.

The mighty Amazon river flowing through South America was the cradle of many of the tales of ancient mysteries. Among tribes largely isolated from modern culture, these myths were continued by story tellers who passed on descriptions of the first people, the separation of Night and Day, and the creation of the first animals. When Europeans came to this region, they found a tribe of women living alone, hunting with bows and arrows and carrying spears. They recalled the Amazons of Greek mythology and named the great river after them.

Though the rainforest of Brazil presents a lush green canopy from above, below its leaves exist flesh-eating piranhas, huge snakes, and wild jaguars. It is a place where death can strike in a terrible instant among the most fantastic beauty and wildness. ROMI KUMU had to be a strong, powerful, and aggressive figure to survive - even in this place of Amazonian women which she herself created.
