Brigit - Goddess of Communication

BRIGIT
GODDESS OF COMMUNICATION
(Sign of Gemini)

BRIGIT was a Celtic expression of The Goddess found in Scotland and other western European countries. She represented learning, culture, and skills, as well as some agricultural pursuits. Her sacred grove of trees was tended only by women who communicated BRIGIT's advice on healing and herbs, and about springs and wells imbued with her curative powers.

She was especially the Goddess of eternal Spring and of the poets. She invented the written word so that knowledge and creative thought could be conveyed to the world. For those to whom books were not available, this information was carried forth in an entertaining way by the legendary Celtic bards. They roamed the countryside keeping alive the stories and deeds of earlier times. Colleges were created in BRIGIT's name.

Her duties were diverse and she had many talents. She taught the arts of war and her soldiers became known as "brigands" or outlaws to those who sought to impose their religion on her old ways.

Beautiful as herself, she had the power of transformation into female, sometimes frightening, animal forms that could strike terror into men's souls. One might say that BRIGIT had the same mercurial effect as the written words she created, in her ability to create new realities.

She was revered as a Triple Goddess of poetry, healing, and smithery, an essential occupation of her time. The devotion of her worshippers was so great that the first Christian pilgrims in her lands were compelled to incorporate a Saint Bridget to facilitate the adoption of Christianity.
