Lakshmi - Goddess of Wisdom

LAKSHMI
GODDESS OF WISDOM
(Sign of Sagittarius)

LAKSHMI is further known as the Hindu Goddess of Abundance and Sovereignty, and also as the wife of Lord Vishnu. She emerged from the ocean and elephants bathed her with water. She was always found dwelling in rivers, both those that flowed mildly between tree-lined banks and those that were turbulent and visited by wild animals.

As Vishnu's wife, she was devoted although she had been worshipped as his equal before their union. LAKSHMI was such a sedate and proper consort that Vishnu sought more sexual and fiery conquests elsewhere.

LAKSHMI manifested herself in the form of art and knowledge. She was a lover of books and of the wisdom to be found in them. Although a bringer of good fortune and material wealth, she taught her followers (among them many kings) to be truthful, philanthropic, and sincere. While the riches she gave were to be enjoyed, they were also to be used in the proper spirit.

When merchants closed their yearly account books, they stopped to give LAKSHMI thanks. Lamps were lighted to show The Goddess the path to one's house.

Fearless and pure of heart she existed in all forms of wealth, both internal and external. Wherever a beautiful garden grows or a place of harmony is created, cherished, and respected, there one can find LAKSHMI. The true riches she brings are to the heart.
