EURZULIE is the Haitian Goddess of beautiful dreams and desires which are beyond fulfillment; a vision of transcendent life encompassing art and luxury. She loved flowers, a delicate cuisine, delicious confections, and love itself. EURZULIE was as lavish with her affections as with her material gifts to those who worshipped her. To join with her was to shake off the mundane, everyday life and to enter a place where the pressures of life were shed as dust from one's heels.

She is pictured with three wedding bands because she gave herself completely to many, but she gave each of her numerous lovers her full attention with almost childlike innocence. No matter how much devotion she called forth, however, or how many resources were spent upon her, she would remember some small slight or loss and suffer like a hurt child. EURZULIE could not get enough admiration or commitment from her admirers.

This Goddess wept and wept. She appeared as a small, tragic figure upon whom her worshippers placed an excessive burden. She was the Goddess of our dreams which begin at the end of reality and are carried forth towards some infinite future where they will most probably never be wholly attained.

EURZULIE, the weeper, was a dreamer whose only respite came in sleep where she rested with the tear-stained cheeks of a little girl. Into that sleep, a vision of a ship-wrecked sailor may have crept who, having reached her island home, could have held the answer to her dreams' completion.
