9 The Hermit

Click on the card for more info.

The Dream
Carrying his beautiful but strangely lit lantern, the Hermit walks the enlightened path of wisdom. He travels alone at night when both his robes and the dark conceal him, for his teachings are only for those who seek him out. The Hermit is a teacher who has attained his profound understanding by withdrawing from the distractions of the world, in order to better contemplate the world of the mind. This kind old sage retains the wisdom of the past but is open to the ideas of the future. All of Nature takes on a special glow, revealing its secrets to The Hermit's gentle curiosity. He is a peaceful, open-minded guide, and counselor. Circumspect and introspective, he does not rush to take action or pass judgement. His advice will not be forthcoming without much consideration. A double star shines upon his path, providing the light of the conscious and unconscious minds, which are the sources of all knowledge. If this solitary giver of wisdom is followed with reverence and without desire for materialistic goals, he will shed much light on any problem.

The Awakening
Do not look outside of yourself for the answer. It is time to withdraw and follow your inner light. Some introspection may lead to self-improvement. With maturity and deliberate purpose, things will be resolved. Someone may appear who draws upon his or her own life experience, in order to help you. Prudence may dictate that all answers are not revealed immediately.

The Enchantment
Choose a book that has guided you with wisdom and insight in the past. Hold it in your lap. Have in place a bowl containing earth or stones from a nearby path or road. Upon its surface sprinkle a pinch of golden glitter. Light a blue candle. Now quietly open the book to any page. Read it where your eyes fall first. Right there is the guidance you have requested.

Always perform our Enchantments in a safe manner. Use caution with scissors and all sharp objects. All candles and all fires should only be lit in well ventilated areas and in appropriately strong and fireproof metal or ceramic containers that are stable and have walls to prevent sparks from leaping out. Never leave a candle or fire burning unattended.
