Ace of Swords

Click on the card for more info.

The Dream
Under an azure sky, the forces of truth and justice have triumphed. The raised sword conveys the message that adversity and doubt can be conquered through effort. But the element of the suit of Swords is Air--the element of ideas--and so this victory also represents the power of the mind to prevail over its own uncertainty. Twenty-two white butterflies (twenty-two being a sacred number in the art of Numerology, and the number of cards in the Major Arcana) symbolize that all resources have been joined to reach the pinnacle of the sword. The waning and waxing crescent moons at the sword's base and tip show that a completely new phase of action is beginning, a phase of expansion. The large butterfly at the bottom of the card symbolizes the ability of ideas to move through Air. In the corner are four shields representing the protection afforded by mental powers. Behind the sword is a shape resembling a spade, the unifying background shape on all the cards of the suit of Swords.

The Awakening
Make long-term goals and initiate them immediately. Some destruction may be necessary to cut away the dead wood, but do not use this powerful force for unjust manipulation or punishment. If you do, Karma, or the law of cause and effect, will determine your destiny. This card can be seen as a two-edged sword, suited for both attack and defense. Concentrate on principles and not on form.

The Enchantment
Begin a new project with this prayer: "Angel of the Realm of Air, your blazing sword sweeps aside my enemies and your truth drives away the shadows of doubt. Help me to be brave, and to triumph today and tomorrow."

Always perform our Enchantments in a safe manner. Use caution with scissors and all sharp objects. All candles and all fires should only be lit in well ventilated areas and in appropriately strong and fireproof metal or ceramic containers that are stable and have walls to prevent sparks from leaping out. Never leave a candle or fire burning unattended.
