What Do You Want? You Can Have It, But...
As a psychic tarot reader and astrologer, I am paid to do my best to help people learn if and when they are going to get what they want. If getting what they want is not in the cards, then it's my job to advise them on what is the best way to adjust their thoughts and their behavior in order to change their fate and link up with a probable future where they do get what they want.
Affirmations, specially designed phrases that can help you counter the negative beliefs that keep you from attaining what you want, are second only to real world experiences as the best way to adjust your thoughts and bring them in line with the attitude and actions you must take to get what you want. I've written five affirmation books, actually they're affirmation card decks, which are unbound books you read in the order you select the card/pages. You can click here to see our "Little Reminders: Love & Relationships," "Little Reminders: Law of Attraction," "The Healing Deck," and "The Breathe Easy Deck."
Our "Gifts of the Goddess" affirmation cards are currently out of print and I want them to live again. But I don't write blogs for me, I write them for you, dear reader, so tell me, what do you want? More than half of our more than forty published works are designed to help you get what you want. That makes me acutely aware of just how difficult that question can be for many people: "What do you want?"
Of course, the word "want" has two meanings. "To desire" is the one that springs to mind, but "want" also means "to lack, be without, have need of." You get the picture, figuratively and literally, for our affirmations are designed to help you actually get in real life what you picture in your mind. But what do you want? What do you desire? What do you lack? What do you need?
Not being clear about what you want, including not being clear if you really need something or just desire it, can be one of the biggest impediments to your getting what you want. Conversely, knowing what you want and whether or not you actually need it can be one of the best ways to insure that you are going to get what you're going after. This is a variation on the ancient saying in the divinatory arts, "If you know your question, you know your answer." The process of making your questions as precise as possible also clarifies your mind and helps you to see answers before, during, and after your session with a reader like me. It's a beautiful thing.
So, I'm writing a book about a new kind of affirmation technique I've invented, discovered, actually. As I write these words, aware as I am about how things can turn to crap in a second, I have to admit that I am now and have been for some time one of the luckiest people on Earth. I have Amy, she has me, we have little Zane, we have reasonably good health with hope for improvement and work we love that earns us a good living and allows us to live in a beautiful home and town. I get up when I want to - that always gets people's attention - and I get paid to help people help themselves by using my creativity and, not only am I good at it, but I've been recognized for it. See, it's easy to be content when you are me, though of course I have wants and needs and goals, too. But I know more than anyone how ordinary I am, so why am I so lucky? I discovered that I do these new fangled affirmations and so I want to share them with everyone so they, too, can enjoy their life as much as possible and then I won't feel so uneasy about how unhappy and unfulfilled most people are. See, it's a blend of altruism and selfishness, the middle way, balanced, the way I always wanted to be and now I am - those affirmations of mine work!
But it always comes back to "What do you want?" It's like steering a ship on the open sea, you have to keep correcting your course as you go. You think you know what you want, what you need, but as you move towards it what you want and need shifts and you have to shift your goal and the affirmations that will help take you where you're going. Asking yourself "What do I really want? What do I really need?" and accepting what comes back to you as your answer is the way to go, no matter how odd it might seem to someone else or even to you.
When I do a psychic reading for someone I ask them "What do you want to know?" because that's the way I've trained myself. To me, I feel that I'm a classically trained psychic because of this technique but it makes my friends laugh to hear me say it - it does sound a bit over the top, I admit. But I use the question as a trigger for the psychic information to start flowing because, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to be around people without information about them coming to me. But, once again, you'd be surprised as how difficult it is for people to decide what it is that they want to know, what they need to know, even when I'm asking them. They often say "Can't you just read me?" and I say, truthfully, "No." I ask them to ask what they'd ask the future or a departed loved one and that usually gets things started on the right track.
So what do you want? What do you desire? What do you feel that you lack and need in order to get what you want? Take your time. Be honest but be kind to yourself. One of the reasons that affirmations are so necessary is that we are all running unexamined scripts in our internal dialogue that are so unkind to us, i.e., "You can't do that because..." or "Don't do that, don't you know that ...is going to happen and then..." Why are we so cruel and angry with ourselves? We're too old to blame our parents or anyone else. But blaming is a waste of time. We're much better off filling our head with positive affirmations to replace the negative affirmations we've been doing since we could talk, even if the positive affirmations sound so...positive! I find it hilarious how we accept the negative affirmations as "realistic" but the positive affirmations as "phony," no matter how many difficult and amazing things we've accomplished.
Did you ever wonder why some people are so successful? It's because they don't drag themselves down with negative affirmations. They do positive affirmations naturally and so will you, once you've done it unnaturally for a time. How long? That's up to you. You'll definitely start doing them in a more heartfelt manner when you notice that you've actually attained a small goal or two, so start small with your desires. Don't try and win the lottery, try shooting for a raise or a better job. And don't think it's going to have to happen magically. You can ask for a raise after you've done positive affirmations to strip away from you anxiety and defensiveness and fear that you're not going to get it - you know how animals can sense fear and you know your boss is an animal, so there you are! Do your affirmation with the goal being to give you the confidence you need to get what you want. You're allowed to ask for what you want. And you're allowed to be happy, as happy as you can be. So what would make you happy?
I hear you. It would make you happy if I actually gave you an affirmation that would work and help you get on the road to a better life. Of course, I want you to buy my book but since it's not out yet I'll give you an affirmation to tide you over. Actually, I'll give you THE affirmation, the Master Affirmation. If you say this to yourself or even out loud if you're alone, and if you realize that it is actually true and realize that more and more as you say it more and more - especially when negative affirmations try and regain their control of the radio station playing 24/7 in your head - you can expect to see some changes for the better in your life before my book is published. No guarantees because it is totally dependent on how you feel about you, what you want, what you need, and how you feel about what you want and need. And how dedicated you are to your affirmation practice. You get the picture, again.
Here's the Master Affirmation: I have all that I need to get what I want.
What you want should be contentment, not a new car. But if you need a new car, you can have that, too. To be content, you need to want what you have so, instantly, you have what you want. So, even for a few moments, take a vacation from the feeling of lack and desire and inadequacy without having what it is that you thought you needed so desperately. Say it: I want what I have, therefore, I have what I want.
And alternate that with "I have all that I need to get what I want." We all have needs and wants and desires. What we don't all have is feelings of inadequacy without having things and having things be a certain way. Come on, you know it's true. You can be happy without having lots of possessions that end up possessing you. Contentment is the goal, not winning the lottery. If you win the lottery without having contentment, you will still be in the same state of want as you are right now, because there is always more to want. I have many wealthy clients and I have known many wealthy people in my life and not one of them thinks that they are rich because they know someone who is much richer than they are! I always think of myself as rich and I even say it sometimes and it surprises people, especially those who know how much richer in terms of money and possessions they are than I am.
But when I point out to them the things that I have that make me feel so very fortunate also make me feel rich because what I have is a life of true wealth, they see my point and they see that yes, I am one of the richest people they know or know of. It doesn't take money or power or fame or anything material to make a person rich. If you want what you have and have what you want...If you're relatively healthy...If you have any reason to feel content and are wise enough to concentrate of your feeling of contentment, then you are richer than almost anyone.
What do you want? What do you need? What do you lack? If you said "contentment," then you're on your way to being truly wealthy. I'll let you know when my book comes out but until then, you've got your homework! ;-) |
