The Best Christmas Gifts We Can Give
Amy and I wish everyone a peaceful Christmas filled with love for and from those you care about, remembrance of those who are no longer in their bodies, the eternal goodness inherent in the human soul and the sound of laughter.
For those of you who are or have been in the military, who have risked or are risking your lives fighting the war against the forces of murderous hatred arrayed against us and our desire for peace and justice for all, words are inadequate to express our thanks to you and to your families for what they have been through supporting you.
And for those of you who have been wounded or lost loved ones in service to the freedom of the world's peoples please know that you are in our hearts and in our prayers and that your courage and strength are the things of legend. I firmly believe that these times are as important as the great prophecies have all predicted they would be and that you are taking part in a great and noble act, the historic halting of the spread of ignorance and evil acts and with your sacrifice you have made and are making the world safe for the creation and formation of a world peace that will last for a thousand years. Words are cheap, I know, but I promise that we will redouble our efforts to help you bring peace to the world in our time.
For those who have a problem reconciling military action with spiritual values, please take heart; you are not alone. In fact, the act of reconciling violence with love has been a subject of study for hundreds if not thousands of years. Take one example: the martial art Karate means Open hand.Ó It was formulated by monks who got tired of being beaten, robbed and sometimes killed by those who were not prevented by their spiritual precepts from carrying weapons, even to defend themselves. So the monks figured out a different way and they trained and they planned and when they were attacked they fought, using the energy of their opponent's movements against these evildoers, and they won. I think that we all have to do the same thing and learn how to protect ourselves and feel good about doing so or else we'll just keep getting beaten, robbed and sometimes killed.
I love supporting and defending those I care about, whether with my knowledge, my wit, my bigger than average size or my strengths. I happen to really care about people and when I'm with someone, I care about them. This is really the most spiritual thing you can do: when you're with someone, be with them. Listen to them and be honest with them. Don't prejudge them. If someone leaves your presence better in some way then before they came to be with you, then you have committed the most spiritual act that you can do. Make people laugh. We're all in this same Life-boat together and we all are going to know suffering and death, as well as joy.
So put away your bag of fears and pride and bad habits and just be yourself with all you meet. That's the best way for us non-military people to really support the troops Ð besides donating as much money and everything else they need to military people and their families, especially those who've been wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice. They need all the help and support and love we can give them as we make the world they come home to a better place by being kind to each other each and every encounter we experience.
In my case, I do psychic readings for almost all of the people who cross my path, especially when I'm with Amy and we're doing Trunk shows of her work at the various Neiman Marcus stores, Bergdorf Goodman, too. In fact, I should have registered for the Guinness Book of World Records because I've done as many as 200+ full Celtic Cross tarot readings in a day!
Like astrology, doing tarot readings and the counseling that inevitably accompanies it proves that we are all the same and we are all quite different. Not only does everyone have a story, everyone has a very interesting story! I'm proud to say that I recently did a tarot reading for a young man who had done his service in Iraq. He had broken up with his girlfriend and it really bothered him. He wanted to know whether to become a policeman or some other enforcement job. Our Enchanted Tarot cards told him that his heart was going to be opening up in about a year and that he wouldn't want to find himself in a job inappropriate for the person he was going to become at that time. He had had to close his heart down more than a little to get through his service, as anyone in their right mind would have to do. The good news was that his was going to open up again if he was kind to himself and allowed himself to feel as he enjoyed his life a bit more than he had been doing.
There is more than enough sorrow in our lives so please savor and acknowledge the good times, the times without major loss, illness, accident, poverty or other sorrows. Buddhists know that the meditation on one's death is the surest way to bring one back to being present. I know that not everyone can handle that, so just be aware of what's good when it's good and don't just focus on what's bad. That's a really bad habit, worse for those around you than not bathing or brushing your teeth for a couple of weeks! I am compassionate in the extreme (I'm psychic, remember!) But I don't need to waste my time on this planet listening to someone who's addicted to complaining. I know we all have sorrows because I have them, too!
Christmas has not been the same for Amy and me since 1996 when the spirit of her mother, Jessie Spicer Zerner, left her body and went to the place that we will all go to one day. Jessie died right over there on the window seat in what is now my studio but what used to be her room in what used to be her home. We miss her every day, even though it was channeling her shortly after she passed Ð we missed her so that I had to at least give what I had studied since reading Seth Speaks in the early 1970's Ð that lead me to become one of the best psychics going. I guess it's not surprising when you consider that I've studied it for as long as one used to do in the ancient mystery schools and in the same manner, i.e., not doing it for decades until I really understood what was going on.
But every seven years all of your body's molecules have been replaced Ð you're a new person. The seven year period, which is such a part of common law, seems to have a real basis, besides being one fourth of the approximately twenty-eight years it takes Saturn to go around the solar system, a time of stress and testing in astrology.
Last December 14th marked seven years since Jessie's passing and Amy and I were finally desirous of buying a Christmas tree. Christmas had always been a special holiday for Jessie, especially because her oldest daughter, Amy's sister Toni was born on Christmas Day in 1944, a little gift in a dark time during World War Two.
But last year we saw a really beautiful artificial tree whose fiber optic needles glowed with a rainbow of colors when we were at Columbia Presbyterian's Harkness Eye Institute going through one of the many "in sickness and in health" events of our now thirty years together. So we went and bought one. In the past, we would never have even considered a "fake" tree but would have gotten yet another live tree and I would have planted it in rock-hard ground after New Years. But there's no room on our property for another one and cutting a tree down like that doesn't work for me, so the beautiful fake is really our best bet.
So now I'm going to go upstairs and join Amy and Mr. Zane, our gigantic 15 pounds of muscle lovable cat in going to sleep and waiting to see what Santa Claus puts under our beautiful fiber optic Christmas Tree. I hope Santa brings you what you want and what you need. And I hope that you make yourself what I call a Christmas Presence - make your presence on earth one where everyone who gets to enjoy being with you leaves your presence the better for your encounter. I'll do my best and I know you will, too. Merry Christmas!!!!! |
